Has anyone removed a towbar from a 2021 Tucson. I need to remove it before getting rid of the car.
Does it entail removing the rear bumper?

No responses so far which may indicate that none of the regular contributors to the forum has actually performed a removal.
I can’t answer your question as, although I have a towbar on my HEV, I didn’t actually fit it myself so I can’t say if the mounting points are accessible with the rear of the car in place. However, while the towbar was being fitted by a specialist, I did note that the whole rear valance had to be removed to access the mounting areas. Were it possible to attach a towbar without removing virtually the whole back end, then I’m sure a specialist would know about it.
That said, I think you may need to get underneath with a lamp and scrutinise the mountings and electrical connections to see if it is indeed viable to remove the whole assembly without removal of the valance.
The video in the previous post is for the previous gen Tucson and for a non UK model. US towbar have different fitment to UK cars. Here is a picture of a UK towbar fitted. If you can get it off without bumper removal then I'd be very surprised.
The current model was introduced into the UK in late 2021, so your car could be this one or the previous model.
Assuming it's the latest model and is a UK version, what is it you actually want to remove, the whole towbar assembly or just the tow hitch ?
My hitch is a detachable one and the mounting socket is a part of the towbar assembly. If your hitch is a fixed one, then I don't know if it can be removed separately from the towbar assembly.
However, if you want to uninstall the whole towbar assembly, then the installation procedure will have to be reversed and that entails taking the rear end of the car off i.e. bumper, parts of the outer wings and one of the panels inside the boot to unplug the towbar wiring from the cars wiring harness.
This is not a job I'd recommend the uninitiated undertake.
Furthermore, whether you DIY or get a professional to do the job, the original crossmember that was removed to accomodate the fitting of the towbar assembly must be refitted, so if you haven't kept it you're stuffed, unless you buy another one, either new or from a scrapyard.

What I mean is that the OP should state which model he has.DotDotDotDot wrote: ↑Wed Feb 07, 2024 6:29 pmI believe you mean late 2020 early 2021. The NX4 was first available on a 70 plate.
Agreed it would be useful for everyone to include their model/year in their signature section for sure.pharaoh wrote: ↑Wed Feb 07, 2024 7:20 pmWhat I mean is that the OP should state which model he has.DotDotDotDot wrote: ↑Wed Feb 07, 2024 6:29 pmI believe you mean late 2020 early 2021. In this case, the subject line gave away the model. 2021 Ultimate. The previous gen Tucson was not available in 2021 and the previous gen did not have an Ultimate derivative.
