Just used the Sat Nav for the first meaningful time on a 200 mile round journey. By the way, the car returned 53 mpg on a mixture of A class roads and motorways which I was pretty impressed with.
Anyway, back to the Sat Nav.
On choosing the route, the map showed the preferred one and an alternative route which I wasn't quick enough to examine before it disappeared from the screen. But my main grouch is the lack of choice between being able to choose between the type of route, e.g. quickest, fastest or shortest. I haven't been able to find this in any of the settings.
I've also, in the past, been able to choose to keep the route on main roads.
My destination was in a road which admittedly is a little off the beaten track but the Sat Nav took me to it by the worst possible route. The "road" was barely passable with one car, let alone one coming the other way. It would have been much easier to access my destination for the other end of the road.
Why could I not be able to choose the type of route I wanted to reach my destination. Or am I missing something?

If I have to go back there I'm going to input a road at the preferred end of the destination road to avoid it but surely I shouldn't have to do that?

Have you seen this notice: It seems to explain the differences.

Thanks Alan,
I really wanted something that could keep me from being directed to narrow country lanes-although I appreciate that may be the most economic route-apart from any paintwork damage from thorns at the side of the road.

You need a specialised Sat nav that allows you to put in the width and length of the vehicle. Car sat navs are all very generic.
