You know, I’d never actually noticed this but having just been and experimented with my PHEV I can confirm that it doesn’t lock. Presumably it’s seen as a convenience feature so you can just open the flap and plug in……

You can siphon fuel from the petrol tank but you cannot extract stored electricity in the same manner. As such it makes sense to lock the petrol (although my previous vehicle had no lock).

thanks for the replies, it wasn't a case of anything to do with anyone potentially getting at the electric it was more a case of some idiot pressing it and opening it and dams aging the flap, the other PHEV cars i have had had a locking plug in point flap

Ah interesting. I wouldn't say Hyundai cut corners but I've found a few things where they take a slightly cheaper route e.g. one switch for both the heated mirrors and rear window. On the whole I"m very very happy with my Tucson but it doesn't have the build quality or attention to detail of my previous car.

My wife has an EQA and that doesn't have a locking charging flap either. That's where the similarity ends. The plug socket is streets ahead of Hyundai's version. If I wasn't a fan of Hyundai I would call their solution cheap and nasty in comparison.
