Having had my ultimate hybrid Tuscon for 3 weeks came home on Friday eve to find the neighbours next door had started building work. In the process of dismantling their roof had decided to throw 4 tonnes of building rubble wood, mortar and Any other sh#t from the top of their house into a skip. The result being my vehicle having debris directly and indirectly covering and damaging the paint work. In sheer utter disbelief that the car had only 350 miles on the clock,no one had even used the back seats, orange stickers still on the alloys from the factory,my car looks like a barn find from the 1930s. Calmly knocked on my neighbours door to express my concern and show him the damage. His response being not interested don't care not his car talk to the hand.
Eventually i managed to contact the builder who suggested he could send someone around to clean the vehichle, too which I declined. Gently rinsing the car off with warm water i took it to the petrol station and jet washed the car.Even after jet washing pieces of mortar and wood shaving have remain attached the car and it is evident the paint work has been cut through with a dozen or so scratches on the bonnet, the radiator grill is scratched to hell, several stone chips again through the paint work on the side doors and I haven't had the opportunity to check the panoramic roof as yet.
Today took the car to a body shop who confirmed required a resorts on 4 or 5 body panels and the grill required replacing. Min work required without a full inspection.
Contacted insurance and they want it to be repaired by their preferred garage not hyundai.
Any advice opinions really appreciated

Insurance claim definitely - but you are allowed to have to done at a Hyundai garage. Don't accept your insurance garage.

PS - you might need better pictures.

You should have been given notice by your neighbour (he doesn't sound like a neighbour I would want) and the builder that this work was about to commence and been given a chance to move your car to a safe location.
Assuming the car was on your property at the time and no notice of work was given, then this is completely the fault of the builder who should have his own insurance to cover such eventualities, but on the face of it, he sounds like a proper cowboy.
I would not initially have spoken to my insurance company and tried harder to get the builder to pay for repairs. Too late for that now and making a claim through your insurer, even if they get the money back from the builder, will probably mean that your insurance premium will rise in the future.
If this was wholly the fault of the builder, then he should be made to pay and it's extremely unfair that it should affect you financially.
Since you've spoken to your insurer now, don't do any more to the car until they've sent an assessor to view the damage.
It's correct that you don't have to use the repairer your insurer is recommending, but if you use another repairer, your insurer will not guarantee their work.
Can't give an opinion on the actual damage because your pictures are frankly, awful.

All good advice so far. I would say responsibility lies with the builder not your neighbour as long as the builder is a genuine trader and not some cowboy your neighbour got in to do the job on the cheap. I think I'd write to the builder saying you hold him responsible and have passed his details to your insurance company who will no doubt be contacting him. I would also inform the builder that you expect him to cover your uninsured losses including the cost of hiring a vehicle while yours is being repaired-unless of course your insurance will cover it. Absolutely infuriating. Hope you can get it all sorted with a minimum of hassle.

Builder not saying much ,hence my decision to go through insurance company . Saga . My first experience of them and as yet have found them to be very poor. Had to call them 3 times and wait 36 hours before they registered my claim.
The car will definitely be going to Hyundai for repair and not some preferred body shop providing back handers to the insurance company.
My concern is the car is now defective a second. I didn't spend £££££s to drive a car that's been decorated and not to factory standard. I am also concerned once the card had this work done it will further affect its depriciation.
Am I able to claim against the devaluing of the vehichle,as I am sure should I come to sell in a few years it will not be as desirable with an accident history, potentially costing me more money.
Didn't know how to transfer the pics from my phone ,into the site but are of good quality. The body shop I visited today thought out would cost £2000 to respray the bonnet rear passenger door rear panel and replace the front grill, although he admitted he had no idea the cost of the grill, expecting it to be about £400.
I didn't think his price was excessive and would have expected the grill replacement to be more?

MY BMW X3 was rear ended 6 weeks after I bought it. I ensured it was repaired at the BMW garage and when I traded it in, it made no difference to the trade in price, even though I declared it. I did have a certificate showing it had been fixed and checked yearly since (the car was 5 years old when I sold it) - you probably wouldn't get that with a back street garage.

This is so sad to read. Absolutely gutted for you. All it would have taken would have been a knock on the door from the builder to prevent such hassle. I hope you get this sorted to your satisfaction and don’t end up out of pocket. Hopefully it’ll be good as new and you’ll be able to enjoy it.
Good luck with it, keep us posted with how you get on ☹️

Oh c**p. This is sad to read. Must have been gut wrenching. I think I would be pushing this further than just using my own insurance for a claim. This is just complete neglect for somebody else's property when all it would of taken was a friendly neighbour/workmen knock on your door!!!!!!! What's the matter with people these days?????Hope you get this all sorted out. Feeling for you on this. Fingers crossed it gets settled to your satisfaction.
