I have a 2016 Tuscon 1.7CRDi. Engine Malfunction light is on and is throwing code: P040300 Exhaust Gas Recirculation Control Circuit. The Mechanic who ran the diagnostics says I need a new EGR valve without even taking a look, just based on the code. I have a few questions as it seems EGR valve is not cheap:
How much does it cost for a new EGR valve fitted?
How can he be certain it is the valve without doing any check?
Is there any workaround such as cleaning the existing valve that might help?
Is is ok to drive the car when this code is showing.
Any advice/experience would be appreciated.
Many Thanks..

You would think that simply clearing the code would be a first step...
...I might try dismantling it and giving it a clean, as a second.

Does the car exhibit any symptoms?

(PS - I know next to nothing about Diesels)

UPDATE: this is an interesting read

Thanks Phil, yes they cleared the code and it returned. No symptoms from the car. Thanks for the article - interesting read. I wonder is there a technical manual which would show how to remove and clean the EGR on 2016 Diesel Tuscon, couldn't find any video on youtube for this model.

These days, manuals all seem to be online - Pay per View :( (I can't remember how to access Hyundai's, but I've definitely come across it on my travels)

I'm guessing the fault is either: The valve motor's broken, or the feedback potentiometer is worn - or just maybe, a bit of carbon is jamming it all up.
