After the June update I actually did 390 miles (about 16 engine starts) before I had the settings problem occur. Could just be coincedental of course.

The mapping may be good, but the GPS receiver isn't. Mine occasionally loses the signal or misinterprets it and I end up about 400 yards from where I should be - and this is normally driving down a motorway, so clear site of satellites. Then, I have to change to Google maps to complete my journey. ...

You can override the system by pressing hard on the accelerator, but the system will reactivate every time the car is started. The system doesn't prevent you from exceeding the speed limits.

Intelligent speed limit assist is not mandatory so can be selected/deselected in setup.

When I go to the updater it is only showing the 30 may update. Do I need to uninstall the downloader and re-install it first?

Firstly, it doesn't operate under 40mph. Secondly, it needs white lines to operate. A narrow country road shouldn't make it come on. Thirdly, it isn't a 'strong' tug.
