Re: E5 or E10 Fuel

There are no absolutes in this matter so when the manual says that 15% ethanol is definitely harmful it is surely reasonable to assume that 5% ethanol carries less risk than 10%. Regulations insist that new cars must be E10 compatible so you do need to read between the lines to some extent. Perhaps ...

Re: HEV 12V Battery investigations

They are a really secretive bunch :( That is unfortunately true. I've always had a sneaking suspicion that its because they have copied technology from other companies and want to keep that under wraps. Toyota are much more open about their developments and their faults and they are almost certainl...

Re: E5 or E10 Fuel

The owners manual does suggest a preference for E5 so that's what I use. This is coloured by a rash of problems I have had with various other engines in lawn mowers and other petrol powered garden equipment as well as a Chinese built motorcycles. There is no doubt that Hyundai and other manufacturer...

Re: Glass Roof Panel Shattered

One thing I learned recently from the ombudsman is that warranty is only to cover manufacturing defects. Piss poor design and component selection don't count as a manufacturing defect The warranty may say that but the sale of Goods Act requires items to be fit for purpose. A design that uses inadeq...

Re: Hot weather

Presumably the anti-pinch operates by measuring resistance to the glass being raised and the threshold resistance is being exceeded because of friction in the mechanism or sliding channels. Try spraying some rubber grease on the runners.

Re: PHEV question

There is one other consideration, particularly when planning shorter journeys. It is not good for the engine to start for short periods but never warm up properly. I believe Hyundai have recently made some firmware changes because some customers have experienced oil/fuel dilution issues. In summer I...

Looks like its designed to clip over the dipstick, not necessarily your car though.

PHEV 12 volt battery issues -updated

Well so far it seems that there are no issues! Does any PHEV owner know differently? But I took the opportunity to measure the state of the high capacity lead acid battery of the PHEV having left the car unused for at least 8 weeks. It was left with the lithium battery in a full charged state and af...

Re: HEV 12V Battery investigations

Well done for finding out a bit more about how the 12 volt supply is integrated with the main batteries and how it is protected from excessive discharge. Not gobbledygook to me at least. I'm about to post a bit more about the PHEV lead-acid system based on similar but less exhaustive measurements.
